Getting Close Now

OK, since we are down to less than four weeks before we jump into our STJ adventure, I thought I would give a short update on our preparations.  We have purchased sheets, bath towels, hand towels, kitchen towels, and washcloths.  They were all difficult to get into one suitcase until we discovered vacuum bags at Walmart.  Turns out you can fill these bags and then use the vacuum cleaner to suck out the air and instantly have half the volume.  With this great technology we were able to get all of the above linen plus snorkel gear and other related items into one suitcase (and it still weighs less than 50 lbs!).   Everything else is being distributed among several suitcases and 5-6 “if it fits it ships” USPS boxes.

We have also started to get requests for best times to visit.  With that in mind I have put together a calendar which shows when friends and family are here.  As you can see, we are relatively free after the first two weeks.

For those who are new to STJ, the “high” season on the island is from about mid-Dec to mid-April but there is really no “bad” time to visit.  It is hotter in July-Sept (temps in upper 80’s or lower 90’s) but the trade winds usually keep it comfortable.  It is cooler in the winter months but that just means the temperature may plunge all the way down to the lower 70’s at night.  Hopefully we can X out more days in this calendar soon.
