Trunk Bay

Since we purchased a family pass to Trunk Bay, we feel we need to go there periodically (to get our money’s worth).   Anyway, we arrived early in the day and the beach was beautiful.  The sand was soft and there was a large vacant area of shade right at the entrance.  We settled in our chairs and prepared to enjoy another day of peace.  What we neglected to check was the cruise ship schedule.  Trunk Bay is THE beach the cruise ships that land in St Thomas bring their passengers to as a snorkeling excursion.  Turns out there were 4 cruise ships in the day we went to Trunk.  The beach quickly went from deserted to VERY crowded.  People were literally putting their blankets at (on) our feet.  I overheard some of them complaining that the snorkeling was not very good and if that was the best STJ had to offer they were disappointed.  I was reluctant to point out that this was not the best snorkeling on the island since I was not sure I wanted them invading Maho or some of the other locations.  If that were not bad enough, they were often smoking and littering (seems some of the cruise ships are populated by people who feel entitled to do anything they want to do and they often do not know the rules in the USVI).  Since many of them did not even speak English, it was even impossible to educate them.  Well, we sat tight and defended our turf until the storm ended (it was actually interesting people watching) and then enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at Trunk.  Note to self: only go to Trunk when there are NO cruise ships in St Thomas!
